Discover the charm and excitement of Rhode Island's scenic coastline on your own sea-kayak expedition! The Sakonnet Boathouse provides guided tours and expeditions on Narragansett Bay for groups and individuals from beginner to expert. Trips are designed by our trained tour guides, and routes are tailored to fit your kayaking ability and to show you the sights you want to see. You can explore the islands of Bluebell Cove, watch ospreys dive for fish along the Westport River, see the yachts of Newport Harbor, or take in the waterfront homes of Bristol. Sakonnet Boathouse encourages first-time paddlers to discover the excitement of kayaking on Narragansett bay. We provide all the top-quality kayaking equipment you will need for a safe and comfortable expedition, including a variety of single and double sea kayaks. Just bring your camera, sun-glasses, and a taste for outdoor adventure.

A great introduction to the wonderful sport of sea
kayaking! We begin our tour at the Boathouse and
learn basic strokes and skills. We then travel across the
Sakonnet River and into Blue Bell Cove and explore its beautiful estuaries.

In this tour we will paddle along the Sakonnet River and
explore the Seapowet Marsh Wildlife Preserve. This is a
beautiful trip for viewing waterfowl and the delicate
salt marsh ecosystem.

A fantastic tour that launches from Independence Park
in Bristol. We will begin with a paddling tour of historic
Bristol Harbor, making our way south to Blithewold.
Once there, we will have lunch and take a beautiful
walking tour of their breathtaking gardens and
arboretum. Afterwards we will get back in our kayaks
and return to the park. Blithewold admission and lunch
are included in the cost of the tour. For more

On this tour we will wend our way from Independence

Marine Museum. We will have lunch and then explore
the museum’s wonderful collection of the incomparable
Herreshoff boats, America‘s Cup memorabilia, and
marine artifacts. Our tour will end with a leisurely
paddle back to the park. Museum admission and lunch
are included in the cost of the tour. For more

Take a look at Newport Harbor from a different
perspective. This tour starts at the Mule Barn at Fort
Adams State Park and circles the perimeter of the
Harbor. Along the way we will see mansions, historic
ships, megayachts, the Naval War College, two
lighthouses, and a massive fort.

We will meet at the Sakonnet Vineyard and be transported to the launch site of beautiful Seapowet Salt Marsh. The tour will pass the estuaries of Fogland Beach ending at Town Way in Little Compton where we can wash up and change to continue our adventure at a wine tasting! Admission is included, bring a dry change of clothes. Participants must be 21 or older. Prereq: Intro, Coastal I or equivalent experience.

While the Sakonnet Boathouse offers a variety of
guided tours in and around Narragansett Bay, a
custom tour may be the perfect activity for your
special occasion. Custom guided tours are available
upon request, contact us to plan a fun trip for your
family, friends, group, school, or company. Beginners
are welcome, all you need to bring is your sense of
adventure! As with our scheduled tours, custom tours
include basic instruction, kayaking equipment and
snack. Also, a 10% discount will be given to those
participants who provide their own boat, paddle, and
PFD. For custom tours there is a 4 person minimum.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult in
a tandem kayak. Whether or not children under 6 can
participate will be determined by the guide, please call
if you have any further questions about age.

- We require a 50% deposit when signing up for a
lesson, tour, or rental.
- Each participant in a lesson, tour, or rental must read
and sign a release of liability before the activity.
- Renters must also provide group contact information
and sign an equipment use, abuse & loss agreement.
- For tours and lessons there is a 2 person on-site and
4 person off-site minimum for the activity to run
and a 5 person maximum per guide or instructor.
- Children under 16 years old must be accompanied
by an adult in a tandem kayak for tours or rentals.
Private lessons for children over 8 years old can be
arranged.
- All tours or lessons run rain or shine unless deemed
unsafe by the guide or instructor. Rentals can be
cancelled due to weather at the discretion of the
Boathouse staff.
- Participants should show up 15 minutes early to fill
out paperwork (30 minutes early for lessons and
tours during wetsuit weather).
- We will take 10% off the cost of a lesson or tour if
the participant brings their own boat and gear. The
gear must include a PFD and paddle for tours or
those items plus a pump and paddle float for
lessons.

As stated above a 50% deposit is required when making
a reservation for a lesson, tour, or rental. Reservations
can be made in person or over the phone and through
e-mail using a credit card. Gift certificates can be
applied towards the price of a lesson, tour, or rental. If
the customer cancels their reservation 7 or more days
in advance we will provide a full refund. If notice is
given between 1 and 6 days prior to the event we will
issue store credit for the full amount of the deposit.
With less than 24 hours notice no refund will be given.
If it becomes necessary for the Sakonnet Boathouse to
cancel an event a full refund or store credit for the full
amount will be given.
